Saying goodbye to a much-loved pet is one of the most difficult experiences a pet owner can face. At Filey Vets, we understand the special bond you share with your pet and the emotions that come with making end-of-life decisions. Our caring veterinary team is here to provide compassionate guidance, helping you understand your options and make decisions that prioritise your pet’s comfort, dignity and quality of life.
As pets get older or develop serious illnesses, their health and quality of life may change. Our veterinary team can assess your pet’s condition, discuss their comfort and mobility, and help you understand the care options available.
When appropriate, supportive treatment and palliative care may help manage discomfort and maintain quality of life. If your pet is suffering and their quality of life has significantly declined, we can also talk you through the option of euthanasia with sensitivity and compassion, giving you the time and information you need to make an informed decision.
Every pet is different, and changes in their health can sometimes be difficult to recognise. Our team can help you assess your pet’s daily comfort, appetite, mobility and enjoyment of familiar activities to better understand their overall wellbeing.
We will listen to your concerns, answer your questions and work with you to determine the most appropriate approach for your pet. Our aim is to help you make informed decisions while ensuring your pet receives kindness, comfort and dignity at every stage.
Older pets may experience reduced mobility, changes in appetite or difficulty carrying out everyday activities. A veterinary assessment can help identify ways to support their comfort.
Pets living with advanced or progressive illnesses may need additional support to manage symptoms and maintain their quality of life.
Changes in behaviour, reluctance to move, reduced appetite or withdrawal from normal activities may indicate discomfort and should be discussed with your vet.
When a pet's quality of life has significantly declined, our veterinary team can discuss the available options, including euthanasia where appropriate, with care and understanding.
At Filey Vets, we recognise that end-of-life care requires more than veterinary knowledge. It requires empathy, patience and an understanding of the strong emotional connection between pets and their owners. Our team will take the time to listen to your concerns, explain your options and help you make decisions that put your pet’s welfare first.
Whether you need advice about an ageing pet, support with a serious illness or guidance when considering saying goodbye, we aim to provide a compassionate and respectful experience. We are here to support both you and your pet through this difficult time.
If you are concerned about your pet’s quality of life or need advice about end-of-life care, our friendly team is here to listen and help. Contact Filey Vets to arrange a consultation and discuss the most appropriate care and support for your pet.
